These instructions are for an OLD Echostar 4000 Receiver

This type of receiver does not go by satellite names, you should have a list of numbers that correspond to the satellites. (EX: Satellite 01 will be F1, 02 will be F4, etc.) They may have two boxes, one is a receiver and the other would be the dish positioner.

HOW TO PROGRAM A SATELLITE

1. Find a satellite number that you do not use.

2. Start on a satellite next to or near the satellite that is being programmed.

3. Go to a channel that is active on the satellite you are starting from and the satellite you are programming.

4. On the dish positioner there should be memory lock. Press this button and the memory lock light should go out. If it does not, then press memory lock again and then hit 437 on the remote control and then the light should go out now. If this step does not work again then try using your own password.  Otherwise keep trying to get lock off.

**Possible problem** The channels may start scanning when the lock goes off. What to do: turn the scan switch off, which is located on the back of the receiver.

5. If you are starting from a satellite with the opposite polarity, tap east or west just until the picture is gone.  Next, press FORMAT on the receiver one time to reverse the polarity.  There should be a picture at this time. If not, proceed to step 7; otherwise proceed to step 6.

6. If you are starting from a satellite with the same polarity, then tap east or west until a different picture comes in. Verify that the picture is correct.  If it is not, then proceed in the same direction or opposite direction to find the correct picture.

7. After finding the picture, press NEXT SAT on the remote and the number of the satellite you are using to name it, (EX: NEXT SAT 01), then you must press STORE within 4 seconds. The receiver will display L (Sat No.), (EX: L01).

8. If it does not display the satellite number then try again and again until it works.

9. Press lock and then you may have to hit 437 on the remote to turn the lock back on.
