1. Is DirecWay the same as DirecPC?
   
   Yes. Hughes Has changed the name of their DirecPC system to the DirecWay system.
    
2. What are my PC system requirements?
   
   The minimum PC requirements for DIRECWAY are as follows:
   • Pentium II 333 MHz or faster
   • 64MB RAM (Windows 98SE and Windows Me), 128MB RAM (Windows 2000)
   • 20 MB of free hard drive space
   • Analog modem
     • Used only once for commissioning the account on two-way systems
     • Continuous connection required for one-way systems
   • One available USB port
   • CD-ROM drive

    

3. What Operating Systems are compatible with the new DIRECWAY System?
   
   Windows 98SE, Windows Me, and Windows 2000
   
 
4. What is DIRECWAY broadband by satellite?

   DIRECWAY is the new solution for everyone who is ready for high-speed Internet access. DIRECWAY satellite technology makes high-speed Internet available to everyone in the continental U.S, as long as you have a clear view of the southern sky.

    

5. Is DIRECWAY a one-way or two-way system?
   
   DIRECWAY offers you a number of system options that are available through our service partners. The DIRECWAY two-way System allows you to send and receive information via satellite (a.k.a. satellite return). There's no need for the expense of a second phone line or hassles with logging in when you want to get onto the Internet. DIRECWAY also offers an economical one-way system which allows you to receive information via satellite at speeds identical to the two-way system. The one-way system sends information using your phone line (a.k.a. dial return).
    
6. How can I/Where can I purchase the DIRECWAY product?
   
   DIRECWAY is available via our Powered by Partners. These are the service providers that use DIRECWAY technology to power their Internet services.
    
7. Can I use DIRECWAY with the Windows XP operating system?
   
   While the current versions of DIRECWAY software (DirecPC versions 4.0.0.x) were not originally designed for the Windows XP operating system, we have tested these versions with XP and found that most XP-based systems will install and run successfully. Our next release of DIRECWAY software (version 4.0.1) will integrate fully with Windows XP.
    
8. How fast is the DIRECWAY System?
   
   The experience with DIRECWAY high-speed Internet is astonishing. When comparing typical activities with a dial-up service, the difference in the amount of time you'll be waiting for what you want is night and day.
   • You can download software upgrades in just minutes, versus up to an hour.
   • There's no more waiting for web pages to fully finish loading. They are typically done within a couple of seconds.
   • Getting your favorite song can be done in less than the song's length rather than three times as long.

   As you can see this is a huge improvement... and broadband by satellite is the only high-speed Internet technology that's available everywhere in the continental U.S.!
    

9. How fast is DIRECWAY compared to Cable or DSL? Aren't they faster?
   
   Everyone's Internet technology is based on shared bandwidth, so sometimes one option will allow you to do things in less time than others. But because everyone uses shared bandwidth there's truly no definitive answer.
    
10. Is there a business version of DIRECWAY? If so how do I get it?
    
    Yes, there is a Business Edition of DIRECWAY that allows for multiple seats in an existing LAN-based environment.
     
11. Does DIRECWAY work with VPN?
    
    Currently, DIRECWAY does work with many leading VPN clients.
     
12. What if my computer did not come with a USB port?
    
    Many PCs can be upgraded with a USB port. We only recommend adding one if all other minimum PC requirements are met.
     
13. Can I use a PCI card adapter?
    
    No. The DIRECWAY Systems are only available with a USB connection.
     
14. Do I still need a dialup modem and telephone line?
    
    You need a PC modem and connection to a telephone line to commission your system for the first time. After that, if you have purchased the two-way system, no phone line requirement exists for normal operation. For the one-way system, a continuous connection to a phone line and modem is required to maintain Internet connectivity.
     
15. What is transmission latency?
    
    Latency refers to the time it takes for signals to travel to and from the satellite. This typically creates a sub-second lag. For this reason, DIRECWAY may not be ideal for playing some "twitch-games" or online day-trading.
     
16. Why is there a requirement that the DIRECWAY two-way system be professionally installed?
    
    The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) requires that trained professionals install any two-way satellite system.
     
17. Can I put this system on a boat or in an RV?
    
    No. The satellite return system is for fixed installs only.
     
18. Can I run DIRECWAY on a small network?
    
    Yes, however, we recommend the DIRECWAY Business Edition for this purpose.
     
19. Can I directly connect a Mac using DIRECWAY?
    
    Not currently. However, when DIRECWAY Business Edition software is loaded on a PC gateway/server, networking Mac systems is possible.
